If you’re shopping for personal storage in Ontario, you’re probably asking the same question as everyone else: how much does a shipping container cost right now? Prices vary by size (20ft vs 40ft), height (standard vs high-cube), condition (used vs one-trip), and delivery distance. In this quick guide, we break down typical 2025 price ranges in Canada, explain the add-ons that move the number up or down, and show what to expect for delivery anywhere in Ontario. When you’re ready, use the calculator below (or contact us) for a firm, location-based quote.
What actually changes the price?
Condition (biggest lever)
Used (WWT): Best value for pure storage.
One-Trip (new): Like-new cosmetics + longest lifespan; costs more.
Size & height
40ft costs more than 20ft;
High-Cube (9’6”) runs higher than standard height.
Delivery distance & access
In Ontario, local tilt-bed/roll-off delivery is typically the most cost-effective. Expect roughly CA$200–CA$400 for local hauls under ~100 km, with longer runs priced per km. Many Ontario carriers quote about $3–$3.5 per kilometer as a starting point for empty container moves, varying based on size of truck used for delivery.
Site complexity
Tight turns, soft ground, or need for crane service can add fees. Tilt-bed is the default in/around Toronto and other major cities.
Market & seasonality
Prices move with global shipping cycles and local depot inventory (especially for one-trip units).
For this reason we do not keep a quote valid for greater than 2 weeks as prices can change.
Ontario delivery: what to expect
Method: Ground-level drop with tilt-deck/roll-off. No forklift or crane needed in most cases.
Space needed: Plan for 75 ft clear space for 20ft deliveries; 15 ft for 40ft; 14 ft width; firm ground. (Requirements vary by truck and site.)
Cost factors: Distance from container loading site, container size.
How to get the best price
Pick the right grade: If you’re storing tools, farm equipment, or household goods, a used WWT often gives the best value per cubic foot.
Be flexible on color: Cosmetic preferences can restrict inventory and raise price.
Share delivery details: Photos of the drop area, gate width, and surface help avoid dry-run fees.
Bundle & save: Buying two or more units to the same address can lower your delivery cost per container.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit to place a container on my property?
It depends on the municipality and zoning (residential, agricultural, commercial). Many Ontario towns allow containers for storage with rules on setbacks/visibility. Check your local by-laws or ask us—we’ll point you to the right office.
How long does it take to deliver?
We can have it delivered within 1-3 business days. depending on weather, availability of containers or time of year, busy seasons can take up to 3 days.
What’s the difference between WWT and CWO?
Both are structurally sound; WWT (Wind & Water Tight) is ideal for storage. CWO (Cargo-Worthy) meets shipping standards for export after inspection.
Can you place the doors facing a certain direction?
Yes—tell us when you order so we can load it in whichever way you want it. Direction is set by how the container is loaded on the truck. Can be facing the cab OR facing the rear.
What surface do I need?
Firm, level ground is best. Many customers use six 4×4 or 6×6 pressure-treated wood blocks or concrete pads under corner castings to encourage drainage.
